ANCHORAGE ALASKA MESHTASTIC COMMUNITY

Site last updated: June 1, 2026 | Location: Anchorage

-= MAIN MENU =-

-= What is this Meshtastic =-

Welcome to AnchorNode.Club! βš“οΈπŸ“‘

Meshtastic is an open source, off-grid, decentralized mesh network built to run on affordable, low-power devices. No cell towers. No internet. Just pure peer-to-peer connectivity.

The Anchor Node Club site was made to help new folks get started and to discuss best practices so we can collaborate to install well placed nodes that help to expand the mesh!

When windstorms knock out the grid or cell towers fail in a quake, Meshtastic keeps working. Messages hop node-to-node over radio for up to miles between nodes entirely without internet or cell infrastructure.
Just pure RF (radio frequency) magic! ⚑

πŸ‘₯ Who is it For? πŸ‘₯

Meshtastic is great for all kinds of Alaskans!

πŸ›– Off-Gridders: Stay connected with neighbors even in areas with infrequent or non-existent cell coverage.
🦌 Hunters & Hikers: Coordinate with your group across peaks and valleys in the Chugach with zero cell coverage.
πŸŒͺ️ Emergency Preppers: A real backup channel when every other system is down. Disasters don't stop LoRa radio.
🀝 Community Builders: A great way to build local community as your messages naturally stay within your area. All without ads or being blasted around on the internet. channels can even be set up to be encrypted with a secret key just for your community
πŸͺ§ Protesters: Leave the phone at home with all-in-one Blackberry/Pager style devices that run meshtastic. Or turn your phone to airplane mode and still be able to connect with folks without the risk of cell networking hijacking.
πŸ•΅οΈ People weary of Goverment: Not centrally hosted, encrypted by default, and non-subpoenable.
πŸ§’ Youth Connection: Don't want your kid to have a cellphone but want them to stay connected and keep tabs on their location in the large sprawls of Anchorage neighborhoods? A cheap meshtastic device can allow them to stay connected with their parents and their friends all with no internet. You can even remove the default channel and only have them be able to contact other people on an encrypted channel you set up for them.

πŸ› οΈ How to Join the Mesh πŸ› οΈ

Getting on the network takes about 30 minutes and costs as little as $35!

  1. Get a LoRa Radio: MeshPocket Battery bank, Wio L1 Pager , or WisMesh Tag (credit Card Size) . Any device supported by Meshtastic will do. [Rokland is our recomended online store]
  2. Flash Firmware: Plug it into your PC and flash the Meshtastic firmware via your web browser. [flasher.meshtastic.org]
  3. Use the default Settings: See the settings below in case you want to double check.
  4. Connect: Download the app for iOS or Android, pair via Bluetooth, and say hello on the LongFast channel!

/// STOP! READ THIS! ///

[ MQTT IS NOT RECOMMENDED ]

Seriously.

Unless you have a very specific use case and the know-how to run your own MQTT server,
IT'S RECOMMENDED TO LEAVE MQTT DISABLED!

Turning on MQTT defaults can lead to a false sense of security and lead you to believe you will be covered in a scenario when cell towers go down.
In the worst case scenario its possible to misconfigure the MQTT settings and flood the local network with traffic from across the globe.

Save the airwaves. Keep it local. Keep MQTT OFF.

πŸ“‘ OFFICIAL NODE SETTINGS πŸ“‘

To ensure maximum compatibility across the frozen tundra, stick to these defaults!
